Will Sony Unveil its Secret PS3 Game at E3?

Posted July 9th, 2008 by Brianemone

ps3 Some months ago a BBC journalist was given the chance to sit in on a very early preview of an unannounced title that blew his mind. The title was said to be due in 2009 and with no new games for 2009 having been announced yet you can’t help but reason that E3 will be the event where they showcase these games.

I have been invited to a private preview at E3 that will be showing a currently unknown title. I assume the game its self will be made known at the Sony Press Conference on Tuesday morning. If this isn’t the game mentioned by the BBC folk then what is it? There are a lot of games that people are expecting to make it to the PS3, we already know that God of War III will be there in some form. Twisted metal for the PS3 has also been hinted at but it is already assumed by a lot of gamers that this is more or less unofficially confirmed.

What does that leave? There was a “screenshot” (which may or may not be fake) of Team ICO’s game, could it be a Shadow of the Colossus sequel? This type of game would certainly fit into the bracket that I would consider industry evolving.

All I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is “in game”, as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion

My money is on the fact that Team ICO is working on something monumental with an announcement being made this coming Tuesday.

hmmmm – ICO is a game I would buy another PS2 for, so maybe this could be reason to make the PS3 leap.

  2. rbluetank says:

the game he is talking about is Heavy Rain…. It will be a great game. i will just wait and see what E3 has to show us all

  3. sock merchant says:

I would like for it to be a new Ico or Shadow of the Colossus game…so it wont be those :)

  4. Brianemone says:

Heavy Rain has been known about for quite some time. This will be something new..

  5. sock merchant says:

    God of War 3?

A step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story telling and immersion, but no name or description? AWESOME!
Will it tie my shoes, make my lunch and give me head as well?

What is this current PR trend of “We have something awesome to show you, but not yet”? F*uck that. Give me information or shut your word-hole.

This is the Key statement by the BBC jounalist: “All I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is “in game”, as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion” Gow3 is already announced and Twisted Metal also; i belive it not them. Heavy rain is about two or three character making “choices” that change the the game play of each character in the game that follows. I could me wrong and that ok… i will wait and see.

    KINGDOM HEARTS 3!!!!

  9. MGV says:

That journalist had already confirmed about a month ago that the game he saw was Heavy Rain, so whoever guessed that, your correct! Now, whether that’s the same game that’s going to be shown at E3, who knows.

  10. Kris says:

It is not Kingdom Hearts 3, God of War 3, Heavy Rain or anything that was previously announced (or hinted at). This game has come straight out of the blue, and given that it was shown to a BBC reporter (which stands for the BRITISH broadcasting corporation) I might go so far as to expect it is coming from SCEE.

What I mean to say is I doubt very much that its Team ICO’s new game, though I’m certain it will blow us all away in ways we’ve never been blown before.

Given the recent canning of Eight Days and Getaway 3, I had always wondered what projects those teams moved on to before the official announcements of the terminations went out. Might it be that they jumped on the bandwagon of something truly new?

  11. Kris says:

Any confirmations about the game being Heavy Rain are completely false.

  12. Doki says:

Never has so much secrecy surrounded a title – it’s the Final Fantasy VII remake. Get ready for the greatest secret the gaming industry has ever seen to be revealed. Mould-breakingly incredible story-telling, character development, musical score and costume design, upgraded to cutting edge PS3 graphics, all done in top secret since 2006. That would be enough to blow anyone’s mind. Hell, if they announced this at E3 everyone who is there’s head would probably explode with excitement.

  13. steve says:

Dont get so excited. It is media blowing stuff out of proportion. Look at what the Beeb said about GTA:IV. OPM had a little section on it in an older issue saying…”The BBC have said Sony have a secret game planned for 2009, we say its not so secret” meaning the BBC just know NOTHING about games. My guess is that the guy was shown Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 or even something lovely like LittleBiGplanet and he totally shat himself.

  14. BoundClown says:

Inside source says it’s the 21st Anniversary remake of Head Over Heels.

  15. johnthebaptist says:

    @ Doki
as much as i woul love for that to be true, it’s very unlikely that Sony would be presenting that game. Most likely a Square Enix event release some time in 2009.

Anyhow whatever it is i’m excited for it. As long as it’s not overhyped like when pacman came out to xblox live
