The Sam and Max franchise is one of those franchises that people hold close to their hearts. It has been 16 years since Sam and Max Hit the Road released, and are now seeing their second season of their downloadable series become available on XBOX Live Arcade. With over 20 hours (spread over 5 episodes) available, you’d assume you’re getting a pretty sweet deal, and for the most part you are, but there are some certain things that Telltale have done wrong by releasing their product onto Microsoft’s console….. and do they outweigh the good? War. War is hell! And nothing portrays this better in a video game like having to replay the 30 minutes you just played through because you weren’t quick enough to spot an enemy sniper 2km’s away. Now this may sound bad but it’s not all bad news in this modern warfare simulation. So let’s load up, jump on the helo and enter the conflict zone of Skira.
Ubisoft fired up some intense advertising yesterday for Assassin’s Creed 2, in most countries around the world YouTube was taken over to promote a live action series of videos that will be appearing on the Assassin’s Creed Channel in preparation for the release.
The series covers the events prior to the start of the new game with the first episode following the protagonist’s father. The first video is after the break.
Football (you aren’t allowed to call it soccer) isn’t exactly the biggest game in New Zealand. While the All Whites just sold out the 35,000 seat capacity Wellington Stadium for next month’s World Cup Qualifier against Bahrain, this level of interest isn’t exactly typical in this Rugby mad nation. Football Genius will not have wide appeal in our region, but for fans of the beautiful game it may just be 800 Microsoft Points well spent.
Same old story, a lazy lie in and you are browsing the Apple Store, a title catches your eye and you look closer. Ten minutes later and $4.19 poorer you are addicted to one of the simplest, yet satisfying platform games in a while. Continue reading
I have to admit I was quite sceptical before heading into a new South Park game. And another tower defence clone I hear you cry! Well don’t reach for your pitchforks and torches just yet. While it lacks the creativity that Plants vs. Zombies oozes, it’s still a fun little package that will keep you and your buddies occupied for some time still.
Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story is the latest handheld iteration to the successful “Mario RPG” franchise. It is the second game to appear on the DS and follows Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time which had a mixed reception after the popular Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga for GameBoy Advance. While Bowser’s Inside Story is unlikely to win over gamers that dislike the battle system and format used in the series, fans that were less than impressed with Partners in Time should not snub this latest episode.
When recording a podcast, parental supervision is almost always a good idea. Sometimes that simply isn’t a possibility though, which is why we have the “After Dark” sub-label. Someone’s signed up for a 12 step sobriety program for this episode, so it might not be as raucous as the last one. Which is actually probably a good thing…
Cars going around in circles, it’s generally what I think of car racing, and also racing games for the most part, there are exceptions to this rule but they are few and far between. Forza 2 managed to grab some of my time due to the community that developed around it, and the good times to be had online with friends. Motorstorm for a similar reason along with it’s more arcade action feel, but Forza 3…… where does it stand in the current onslaught of titles in the racing genre?
Lucidity is made by the same team that worked on The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. Surprisingly it’s a new IP, something very rare when it comes to LucasArts these days! It’s also not an adventure game but rather a puzzle platformer. Lucidity is a fun little game that won’t change your life, it’s beautiful looking but that doesn’t stop the gameplay from coming off a little dull in execution.
