Leedmees Title
Considering I got the review code for Leedmees a few weeks after release, is it a good indicator that the leaderboard shows less than 3,000 entries?

There are lots of stats and opinions that can make for an engaging Kinect discussion, for the record I am a fan of the hardware. While I do not count myself as a Microsoft fanboy I do respect what they have both attempted and in some respects succeeded.

Leedmes is not a title that helps my argument, at its heart there lies a very simplistic Lemmings clone, the gameplay centres around puzzle-like platforms and your stick figure assisting the wee Leedmees to safety by picking them up and allowing them to run over your body. Perhaps in a concept meeting it could have been good, but it is stuck firmly in two dimensions and soon becomes quite limited by that fact. I did say simplistic.

The first few levels are nice and gentle warm-ups, and the Kinect interaction works for want of a better word ‘well’, but after squishing a couple of Leedmees with my flailing limbs and sending one flying to its death by an accidental flick of the wrist it becomes tiresome.

Just don't do it...

The overall presentation is very static and in some respects holds a very amateur feel to it, making me wonder if the game is the result of a weekend of furious programming by a few pizza fuelled developers. The menu interaction is slightly clumsy and feels like a first generation Kinect game, a sad comparison to the other recent XBLA Kinect game Fruit Ninja, which offered slick and quick navigation and a game with legs. The only legs in Leedmees are your own and they will not be hanging around for long.

Obviously the word has managed to get out on the street because after dabbling with the first round of levels I found myself sitting in the top 1500 players worldwide, then i realised the leaderboard consisted of around 2500 players, which is a pretty good thermometer of how well the game has sold on word of mouth.

Closing Comment

As with all Kinect games I gave it some consideration out of curiosity, but when the time comes to make some space on my hard drive it won’t be clinging on, not even for a few easy achievements. Spend your points elsewhere and give Leedmees a wide berth.

  1. Such a shame, had good potential, but i think i will definitely give this a wide berth indeed. I had high hopes for this and The Gunstringer, and The Gunstringer – after playing the demo – was also a major disappointment. Might have to see what Child of Eden is like. And from what i can gather, you like Fruit Ninja?

  3. I’m no good at dacing either, and Dance Central really just rams home this fact! I tell you, if it didn’t come bundled with the console, i’d have never got a Kinect. Still wouldn’t have one! Would be waiting for the one ‘killer app’ that made it worthwhile.
