Rock Band 2 Pre-orders Now Available from F1rst Games

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

rockband 2 banner

As you all know Rock Band has just been released in New Zealand – just in time for Rock Band 2. While the Rock Band 2 instrument set with fancy new drums will be months away from formal release in New Zealand, F1rst Games has been working hard to bring New Zealanders the Rock Band 2 software.

Pre-orders are now open, which will excite new owners of Rock Band as well as those planning on purchasing the Guitar Hero: World Tour kit. At $109.99 delivered, this means that a $269 Rock Band 1 package plus the Rock Band 2 game comes in at $379 – $20 less than Guitar Hero: World Tour, and enough to score some of the DLC now available.

Xbox 360 owners are free to mix and match software and hardware, but unfortunately for PS3 owners there appears to be no sign of the patch that will be required for the Guitar Hero: World Tour drum kit to work with the Rock Band software.

Rock Band 2 is due to release on November 21 in Europe.

Crysis Warhead Review (PC)

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Crysis: Warhead is the latest game by developers Crytek, who are renown for producing first person shooters which while visually stunning and torturous for any computer short of top-of-the-line, tend to fall a little short in the actual gameplay department. Warhead is a little different in that rather than being a full game, it is an expansion pack which doesn’t require its parent title, Crysis, to run. It still requires a powerful rig, and still looks incredible, but is there more game this time?

Tiger Woods 09 AllPlay Review – Wii

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Every year we get a new Tiger Woods golf title, and every year since ‘03 I have written a review. Every year I say the same thing, that the graphical limitations haven’t been pushed, that there are plenty of graphical and aural glitches, and that all in all the game is basically the same game as the year before. The jump into the new generation of gaming saw two changes over the platforms. PS3 and 360 got graphical upgrades and the Wii got motion controls. But the game essentially stayed the same.

Last year’s Wii title blew me away in the controls department. Sure, it still had a way to go but, to me, it became the superior product; proving that good controls, at least in a golf title, is superior to graphical prowess. But is enough work being put into the Tiger Woods series to actually lay down your hard earned cash? Are the glitches gone?

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

At E3 the Gears of War 2 preview attracted a few select members of the gaming press and Me. Before leaving we were each given a copy of Beneath the Surface: An Inside Look at Gears of War 2, which is what is going to make up part of the collector’s edition for the game.

Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty inspired by The Goonies

Friday, August 8th, 2008

There are a few movies that are firmly embedded in my childhood memories as iconic pieces of film history. Others might disagree but they are wrong. The Goonies is one such film that I would gladly watch again right now, and it seems that I am not the only one. At E3 I spoke to Brian Allgier from Insomniac about their soon to be released snack sized release of Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty. Past the break is the section of the interview that I am referring to, you can hear the whole thing in the fourth ButtonMasher podcast.
