Mario & Sonic OWG Release Date Announced

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (or M&SatOWG I guess) has has a US and UK release date announced of October 13 and 16 respectively. Coming to Wii and DS, the release will precede the 21st Winter Games to be held in Vancouver in February 2010. No New Zealand release date announced yet, but this should merely be a formality given that the original Beijing Games title released in a narrow window worldwide.

Supporting the Wii Balance Board, the game includes events such as snowboard cross, alpine skiing, figure skating, bobsleigh and ice hockey. Multiplayer is a given, but no word on any Wi-Fi support, and also sadly no mention of MotionPlus support. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games sold over 10 million combined Wii and DS units, so Sega and Nintendo will be banking on this ringing the tills this Christmas (only 164 sleeps left!).

Update: New Zealand release has been set for the 15th of October.

Via it’s twitter, EA has advised of a new teaser site for the upcoming id game RAGE. The loading sequence, shows a world going from current day to 2099 to a state of decay. Once it is loaded you see a binocular device scanning a desolate and ruined landscape with a solitary figure in the distance, zoom in for a monologue.

Battlefield 1943 Review

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Boasting the worst launch in recent memory, Battlefield 1943 was plagued by inadequate server space a chronic inability to join games, and frequent console freezes. Yet, all this followed by the quickest and most impressive post release support I’ve ever seen. Was it simply a case of the game being far too popular for its own good? Does it deserve the popularity? Was it worth the frustration? A thousand times yes!

The (tri-) Force is Strong in This One

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

googletesla

Some observant or obsessive (or tipped off) reader at Go Nintendo has noticed something hidden in the Google logo redesign in celebration of Nikola Tesla’s birthday. If you look very carefully, you’ll be able to find a tiny triforce logo hidden in the image. It isn’t the first time this has happened – the triforce logo was also seen (not quite sodiscreetly) on the Google Earth Day banner.

If you are having problems seeing it, then click after the break to have all revealed, as well as see the Earth Day effort.

Rumour: Lara Croft Rebooted with Concept Art

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

I became interested in the Tomb Raider series incredible late in the franchise. It wasn’t until Tomb Raider: Underworld that I decided I wanted to know more, and that the adventuring was as good as people claimed, even one-upping Uncharted’s exploring (although that’s about it). And today it seems that rumours of the Tomb Raider series getting rebooted is another step towards fruition.

As you can see above, Eidos seem to be taking the rebooting very seriously, with what can only be described as breast reduction, and as can be seen past the break with the inclusion of what can only be described as “creatures from my worst nightmares” More »

Free Mirror’s Edge DLC on PSN (for a limited time?)

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Hurry hurry hurry! The Sixth Axis are reporting that at the UK PSN Store, you are currently able to download the “Pure” DLC for the grand sum of £0.00 (previous £7). No-one is quite sure if this is an intended price revision, or whether it will go back to the original price, so what are you waiting for?

Edit: I have checked this out at the local NZ PSN store and found that it is also free locally. Enjoy.

Fallout 3 Update Promised Next Week

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

No, not the update all you PS3 owners have been waiting for, but simply an "update announcement". The first item in a series of promised DLC for PS3 was due for June, but that has now come and gone with no DLC released. In an email to G4TV, marketing VP Pete Hines says:

"[We'll] have [an] update for folks on that next week,"

It’s a statement devoid of any detail, so Fallout 3 players holding out for DLC on their PS3 will just have to continue waiting, and hoping. With such testing of the patience and constant teasing, one wonders if sales will suffer as disgruntled fans spend their dollars elsewhere instead.
