Halo 4 Rumours – A Recap

Friday, August 29th, 2008

4-4b There has been a fair amount of “Halo 4″ rumour mongering going on over the last week.  Consider this a recap.  The October issue of the Official Xbox Magazine started things off with a rumour that Gearbox is developing Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox (known on the Internet as the Xbox 720).   In February of this year Randy Pitchford, big boss of Gearbox Software put an interesting snippet in a job advert.

“I’ve started a new project. It’s big. It’s, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big. I’m Directing it myself. I can’t mention it publicly yet. When you find out what this is, you’ll likely agree that I can’t oversell this one.”

Gearbox have brought Halo CE to PC, have done the Brothers in Arms series, and is currently working on Borderlands.

Halo: Fall of Reach (The Movie) Concept Art

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

halo-fallofreach-coverhdr So, Mr Jackson’s halo movie is basically dead.  This saddens me as I am sure it would have kicked ass.  But fear not, someone else has stepped up to plate.  Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean) has written a script based on the Fall of Reach.  If true, he has been a busy man as he is also involved with the Gears of War movie.  It sounds like the script has been making its rounds in Hollywood and apparently a few people are interested.  Film site Latino Review has gotten a hold of some concept art for the movie.  They have 5 images and are releasing one each week.  We are currently in week 2 of this and two images reside past the break.  If you believe this is a hoax. well firstly the artist has some talent.  Secondly see the angry letter from Microsoft.

Halo Universe to be Explored not Exploited

Monday, July 28th, 2008

suckem I like Halo.  Big surprise.  But not enough to ever tolerate Halo-Kart.  Now that the “Halo” brand is owned by Microsoft and Bungie is back to being its own boss, I along with many others fear for what might happen to our beloved franchise.  Thankfully, the projects currently underway do not contain the words Kart, or Party.  But with three upcoming titles already slotting into the “Halo Universe” how much more can they possibly squeeze out?  We have Halo Wars, the mysterious (perhaps only imaginary) Peter Jackson project and the next Bungie project.  Frank O’Conner (former Bungie community manager, now looking after the Halo brand at Microsoft) assured fans that they will “explore not exploit” the Halo universe.

“The Halo universe is really, really big now.” “Literally the Halo games have only covered one year; a couple of months within a year in fact.”

New Halo Game at E3?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

On my way to work this morning I was listening to the always entertaining (but never frequent) Bungie Podcast.  As you are probably aware, “Bungie Day” was a couple of days ago and a lot of the discussion was about that and the free (ish) Cold Storage map.  However at the end of the Podcast an interesting little exchange happened.

Brian Jarrard: “Isn’t there something going on July 14th, or something like that?”

Luke Smith: “Yeah, around then.”

Brian Jarrard: “Somehow that’s sticking in my head for some reason. Guess we’ll have to see,”

Luke Smith:  “Yep, we’ll just have to.”

July 14th just so happens to be the day Microsoft will hold its E3 press conference.  Will this be the Peter Jackson Project mentioned so long ago?  Or perhaps a new project altogether?
