Battlefield 1943 Review

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Boasting the worst launch in recent memory, Battlefield 1943 was plagued by inadequate server space a chronic inability to join games, and frequent console freezes. Yet, all this followed by the quickest and most impressive post release support I’ve ever seen. Was it simply a case of the game being far too popular for its own good? Does it deserve the popularity? Was it worth the frustration? A thousand times yes!

Rumour: Lara Croft Rebooted with Concept Art

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

I became interested in the Tomb Raider series incredible late in the franchise. It wasn’t until Tomb Raider: Underworld that I decided I wanted to know more, and that the adventuring was as good as people claimed, even one-upping Uncharted’s exploring (although that’s about it). And today it seems that rumours of the Tomb Raider series getting rebooted is another step towards fruition.

As you can see above, Eidos seem to be taking the rebooting very seriously, with what can only be described as breast reduction, and as can be seen past the break with the inclusion of what can only be described as “creatures from my worst nightmares” More »

Battlefield 1943 Gets of to Rocking Shaky Start

1943

It’s not often that I purchase a multiplayer only game, the fact is that I am finding it more and more difficult to find time to play multiplayer games when other people are playing, that coupled with the fact that my son has hidden copies of some of my favourite multiplayer titles…… anyway, Battlefield 1943 was definitely something I was keen to get into with the ButtonMasher community.

If ever there was an incentive to get the podcast started and completed on time, Karate Kid 2 is it. This week we look at the Wii Motion Plus peripheral and Wii Sports Resort, Call of Juarez 2, Sam and Max and many other games that I can’t recall off the top of my head.

Twitter has obviously taken off in a pretty big way with many gamers getting into the swing of things, Warcraft Fans and even Microsoft jumping on board to make it easier for Live members to Twitter their lives away. Here is the ButtonMasher Twitter (add it now), but there are obviously a lot more out there that you can add to make your use of the service worth while.

Console Downloads Get Huge Speed Boost

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

cables

If you were watching the news on TV a week or two ago you might have noticed an article about how Telecom was introducing a new plan that offered unlimited data and that it was taking preparatory steps to ensure that it wouldn’t bite them in the ass when people start going banana’s with the torrents. Part of this is to cache data locally so it doesn’t have to travel through the international gateway more than the first time it is downloaded. Yesterday Tyepo in the forums pointed out that his speeds for downloads from the Xbox Live Marketplace have increased as of yesterday to something previously impossible. I tested it today with a 176 MB file and what would have previously taken an hour was completely downloaded in less than ten minutes.

I have contacted telecom for a comment on this but it seems to be the only logical explanation, the best part of this news is that the same should hold true with the other consoles as well and the Playstation network downloads will also be motoring along at a healthy click as well.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Review

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

boundinblood

I must admit that after the last few games I’ve reviewed I was glad to have a shooter on the plate, not that all of the last games have been bad, I just needed to shoot someone in the head, or crotch, as it turned out I did both, multiple times. With Banditos, Civil War Generals, Indians, Preachers and mal-aligned brothers, this game has all the makings of a truly epic period adventure, provided they are added in the right proportions of course.
