Worms 2: Armageddon Review (XBLA)

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The Worms franchise would have to be the best ‘Scorched Earth’ style of games out. Dominating the other platforms for years Worms hit the ground running with the first release for the Xbox 360 and now with the second release, titled Worms 2: Armageddon, Xbox 360 owners have a bit of a choice when wanting to play this genre of game. As the title implies this is a complete rework of the original Worms: Armageddon of PC fame. But how does Worms 2: Armageddon stack up against the first Worms and Death Tank? And is it actually any good?

Console Downloads Get Huge Speed Boost

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

cables

If you were watching the news on TV a week or two ago you might have noticed an article about how Telecom was introducing a new plan that offered unlimited data and that it was taking preparatory steps to ensure that it wouldn’t bite them in the ass when people start going banana’s with the torrents. Part of this is to cache data locally so it doesn’t have to travel through the international gateway more than the first time it is downloaded. Yesterday Tyepo in the forums pointed out that his speeds for downloads from the Xbox Live Marketplace have increased as of yesterday to something previously impossible. I tested it today with a 176 MB file and what would have previously taken an hour was completely downloaded in less than ten minutes.

I have contacted telecom for a comment on this but it seems to be the only logical explanation, the best part of this news is that the same should hold true with the other consoles as well and the Playstation network downloads will also be motoring along at a healthy click as well.

Photobucket

Right, let me firstly say I am not a huge FPS fan, mainly due to being extremely bad at them. Apart from the ButtonMasher Shadowrun gatherings, I feel a bit scared to venture into the online world or frags, gibs and tea-bagging.

Enter Cell Factor: Psychokinetic Wars. With 30 or so single player challenges to prepare me for the upcoming online sacrifice I jumped straight in. More »

The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai Review (Xbox 360)

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai was the result of Microsoft’s Dream-Build-Play competition.  Developed by James Silva, and influenced by his past occupation as a dish washer, The Dishwasher successfully combines old school platforming and new school technology to create a superbly violent slash-’em-up.
