Trophies and Achievements

So we're WELL into this current generation of consoles and it's safe to say the next generation are in the design process already.

It got me thinking, do you think the current trophy and achievement system will carry over into the next gen consoles? Plus if it doesn't, would you be majorly pissed?

It will absolutely be carried through, with more additions I would suspect. I enjoy achievements and they do affect how I play. My 'completionism' is much higher than in previous gen titles.

Plus, I'm happy I'm not the only one thinking about the 'next' console line-up. I for one am ready!

Well as the self appointed Buttonmasher achievement wh0re I think they will definitely be included.

And I think gaming in the future will not only include achievements and trophies but expansion of ingame rewards such as medals and badges the way Halo Reach, COD's and GOW3 are heading.

The whole score thing I can live without but the badge that says "Completed on super legendary insane you will die difficulty" I still need. Give me my fix!

EDIT: My rational for it is that it ties in to our basic psychological need to receive positive feedback. It makes us feel good, keeps us playing the games longer, make us buy more games, earns the companies more money.

There is NO way in hell achievements/trophies are leaving us anytime soon.
I would love a combined gamerscore/trophy system that works cross-platform though.

It's not that the trophy and achievement system would disappear; the question is about whether currently amassed scores will carry over onto the new system.

Considering Games for Windows stacks with XBL, it seems clear to me that current gamerscores and accounts will carry over to a new xbox system.
Sony is a bit more of a wildcard.. I never know what they're thinking. I'm picking the PS4 will have backwards compatibility (i.e. play ps3 games) but I don't have a clue what they'll do with their trophies. Do any PSP games reward with trophies currently?

That thought's crossed my mind too... It's something which would better suit a third party, I think. Somewhat like trueachievements.
