Default Too Human

Allllllllllllllllllllllllright. Just got my hands on this today. I'll be running through Single-player real quick and then looking for some co-op action.

Yeah, it's sitting at home waiting for me too.

I like to take my time with the single player first time round but may be up for some co-op in the near future...

I'm much the same way since the story is taken out of the multiplayer.

Pretty good so-far. Man - the first 150-hit combo I felt like a god.

So does it deserve the bad scores it has been getting?

Oh, hell no, it doesn't. The other sites I visit (Evil Avatar and Play it, Review it) both have fairly big groups of people who love it.
It's often compared to Lost Odyssey. Lost Odyssey got slamed by many reviews for being too much of a traditional jRPG - but of course Lost Odyssey was trying to be a traditional jRPG.
Too Human is kinda the same - it's a Dibalo game that some people were thinking would be like God of War. It's not - and if you play it like that it's going to disappoint you. It doesn’t help itself by having a dodgy camera and a non-traditional control scheme (like the two-stick shooter controls). Having said that, I’m pretty sure that some of the reviews are bashing the game because of its long development time and mouthy producer rather then it’s actual faults.

hhmm nothing really grabbed me and made me want to play it in the first 2 hours

im guessing its easier to get combos with weaker swords, because my enemies tend to die in one hit ... gg flaming sword of awesomeness

They do die that fast - it's the way it is supposed to work. You are a God, after all. Combos are created by killing them quickly - you'll notice that if you keep sliding, each slide gets faster and stronger. The idea is to chain your attacks and keep going.
My normal plan is to find the strongest one in the area and side towards them, then I ping-pong between them and their minions - building speed and power. They will fall after 2-4 hits, but by that time the others are normally close enough that I can just zip about sliceing through them.
It's a little harder once they start throwing baddies that can only be hit or may only be shot. With the ones that are shot I tend to hurl them into the air and try to juggle them there.

I'm also enjoying it. Only just read the a pdf of the manual at work now because I couldn't work out how to kill the trolls once you were on their backs.

I never read the manual before playing. Would probably help if I did.

Have just finished level one.

Looks like we are about even then!
Have you picked your aligment and obtained your 2nd skill tree yet? What did you choose?

I had a few fulse starts (I played the starting bit three times) because I was torn between the duel wielding warrior class and the 'default' class. I ended up going with the first class cause he looked cooler.

I might have to replay the first level because I missed some areas. Damn doors that look behind you.

You guys are not helping. I had my mind made up to avoid this game but you are giving me second thoughts. Diablo II was my favourite game of all time. Decisions... decisions

Did you know that Diablo 2's review average was 88%?
Makes Too Human's 70% review average look not so bad! ARPGs never review well.

Yeah, I can see a fair bit of replay value.

I went with the Champion Class and chose Human Alignment. Didn't realised this opened up a second Skill Tree until I read the manual this morning.

I noticed you missed the '1 God enters, 1 God leaves' achievement. I guess you can just use the teleport system in the city maps to re-visit areas you miss.

Soooo, you're a Human Champion who has just finished the first level too.
Are you, like, my clone?

I really want to try talking you into multiplayer once I'm done with the single player mode - but we should start again with different characters!

Like Diablo, the levels are designed to be replayed. When you revisit it they alter sections and move about enemy swarms - so I won't mind replaying the whole section.
