Default Xbox 720

The new xbox news is a wee bit old but it's rumoured that you will not be able to play used games on it. If this is true then holy shit.

Bad news if this turns out to be true, however its only a rumour so I would take it with a grain of salt. I wonder how this would affect strictly single player gameplay?

This would make me sad. Not so much that I couldnt play used games but whatever implementation they do will likely restrict my ability to use my game on multiple consoles.

Used games not being playable would be sad too but with plaxes like nzgameshop around can still get cheap new games.

It's entirely possible. Game makers would be over the moon with this. They already make you buy online passes for used games so maybe this is the next step?

I don't mind the on line pass for used games, but banning used games from a console lvl is b.s. imo.
I still thinl tht the on line pass is b.s for games like saints row 3, I mean if I by a game I should be able to play on line not have to pay more, the code should come with the game.

They need a new name, if it is true, 720 is just fuckin ludicrousness for a console name.

360 was bad enough

Dont know about the true to the 2nd hands game thing, it wouldnt surprise me though.

Reading Luke Plunkett's take on it makes sense to me.

Quote:
Remember, our source didn't tell us the machine would permanently and irrevocably bar the playing of second-hand games. Just that there'd be measures in place to prevent it. No company would lock a machine from ever letting you borrow a game, or ever trade one in. There'd be too much resistance from consumers for the former and from both consumers and retailers for the latter.
If we're sitting here thinking it's a batshit insane idea, then so are they.

I actually am pretty sure they cannot, by law, prevent second hand games

Sure they can. It's done with almost every digital content store (Steam, Kindle books, iTunes video content, PSN and XBLM), and with both physically and digitally distributed PC software since forever. So why not with physically distributed console games?

Sounds like BS to me. Don't believe the hype.

I think is a safe bet that the next console won't be called the "720".

Any guesses for names?

I'm thinking "Xbox Kinect".

Oh yah, I can believe the buy-new incentive measures, and can easily believe support for that will be built into the hardware. It almost seems strange that it's not the case already. Well, it is trending that way.
It's dumb for me but whatever. You won't catch me spending megabucks to support my beloved gaming industry on the 720, lol.

Am I the only person completely for it? I'd imagine that if you wanted to play a used game then there would be a fee involved.

Also, FUCK used game sales.

While I really don't think the rumour is true, I don't think consumers have a right to get angry if MS did implement something like this.

I think the only real measure against this will be when games go completely digital.
