With the course i'm doing, you build a PC from scratch, and then get the option of purchasing that PC. It seems like a pretty good deal for the price, so i've bought my PC
![]() The problem is that it doesn't have an Operating System with it. So i'm looking for a legitimate, genuine copy of either Windows XP Professional or Windows 7 Professional. Would anyone know where i could get one without having to spend hundreds of dollars more? I don't really want to put Linux on it, but that might ultimately be my only option. Ubuntu perhaps. The PC seems to have some really good features on it, HDMI, Optical etc, so i'm thinking of using it as a Home Theater machine. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

I found out that i get a copy of Server 2008 when i start the MCITP course in 12 weeks, so i've installed Linux Ubuntu in the meantime. I'm actually really liking it; anyone else here use any Linux variants?

Thanks heaps Silent, much appreciated dude.
Radish, that's a very nice program that XBMC - works really well. Slick interface too. Not sure what the issue is, but it doesn't want to stream my "Big 4: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth & Anthrax" vid, although i suspect that's probably because i'm on a wireless 802.11g network. Probably need to be wired or 802.11n at least. And it's a high-def vid too, so probably too massive to buffer properly at the modest speed of my network. Got my final A+ external exams on Tuesday, so i've been studying this weekend and doing simulation tests; all looking good so far. Fingers crossed ![]() |

Thanks mate - i'm scoring in the high 90's for the Essenitals exam and high 80's for the Practical. They're simulation exams, so should give me a decent idea of how i should go in the actual exam.
Just got my 'Linux Ubuntu' machine hooked up to the projector in the lounge via HDMI. Picked up a cheap-ish wireless keyboard with a touchpad on the side; works really well. And XBMC is most excellent - like how the Ubuntu startup gives you the option of loading XBMC instead of the Ubuntu OS. |

Silent, anytime really. Do you have transport? Maybe you could come round for a beer and drop it off (wife has suggested that you might want to stay for dinner ), or i'm happy to pick it up off you. Let me know, either on here or via text. |

Yeah, should have realised you'd have a vehicle
![]() Hey Radish, i was looking for a hardware remote to control XBMC, and stumbled across the Android App for it; hot damn, it's seriously cool - turn your phone into a remote control for your PC's media! Love how you can basically control the whole of the XBMC GUI interface from your mobile. I'm gonna download some skins for it and get it fully tweaked for my own personal preferences. I'd heard of XBMC before, but never really paid it much attention. Thanks for the heads-up on how excellent it it ![]() |

The Android remote apps are great, use one for my HTPC. Here's a bit of history for you, this is when it was XBMP. |
