So, I'm kinda out of the loop these days, but what are the best Android phones these days? Is the Galaxy SII still considered the best?

Not sure 'best', but it's still seems to be the one selling. There are a few other phones in the same ballpark (some with better specs), but the SII has solid hardware, an awesome screen, a good ui, is well supported and has a brand name people trust.
But we are just about to see the SIII come out, and that will be tri-core. o_O It's funny that when I talk about a device with a duel-core 1.2ghz cpu, 512mb of ram and an nivida 3D graphics processor, I'm describing a phone. It would blow 15 year-old Tel's mind.

Thanks, Tel. Just trying to figure out what phone to get for my wife when we get to the US. She likes the Android UI as she's currently rocking a Huawei Ideos X5, which is a pretty sweet phone for the price!
I'm thinking the SII might be good for her, especially as it's quite cheap over there (US$99 on a two-year contract). Myself - I think I'm gonna give the Nokia Lumia 900 a shot ![]() |

Id hold of for another month, the HTC one X is about to drop and so is the Galaxy S3 if ya want a newer/powerful handset.
SGS2 is still a beast though. |

Thanks guys. My wife's not a power user, and the SII is at a pretty good price over there at the moment, so I'm thinking it might be the best option for now.

Cool, i know your buying overseas, but SGS2 was $640 the other day at noel leeming, they sold shit loads.
Beware of getting tied into an overprice contract. |

Will do. The contracts in the US are SO SWEET though.
It looks like I'm getting the Nokia Lumia 900 for US$100 (with a two-year contract). Jen will probably get the SII for the same deal. One of the best things about US phone contracts is they often allow you to upgrade your phone over time. The first time I went to the States, Jen lost her phone in Philadelphia somehow, but because she had been a relatively long-term customer of AT&T she was able to upgrade to a better phone free of charge. |

Glad to see that you're pulling the trigger on the Lumia 900. Microsoft is heavily subsidizing it to try to gain traction in the market. Nokia's latest sales/earnings were horrific but I really hope Nokia + Windows Phone can stick around.

Yeah, MS and Nokia are marketing the Lumia 900 pretty aggressively, and the subsidisation is a good call. It's almost do or die for both companies in the mobile arena, but I think this strategy will help them gain some serious traction.
I had a Lumia 800 for a couple weeks and that was an awesome phone. The 900 is basically an even better version of that, so I'm sold. I've been a WP7 advocate since day dot, too. |

Nokia Lumia 900 is a beautiful phone, unique design, i really like it.
only downside for me is the 720p video. i used to have an old HTC windows phone which was a beast. |
