I just heard that it's like Transformers 3 but with the Avengers swapped out for Transformers.

Well... heard wrong. I mean, they are both action/pop-corn movies. But Avengers is a good action/pop-corn movie.
The difference is that the funny bits in Avengers are actually funny, and the action is fun to watch. Also it's pacing is good. Transformers 2 and 3 had terrible pacing issues that would have killed them even if they didn't fall flat in other areas. A better example would be something like the first Iron Man movie. If you liked that, you'll have fun with this. For example, on Rotten Tomatos: Transformers 3: Total Positive Reviews: 83 Total Negative Reviews: 125 Avengers: Total Positive Reviews: 38 Total Negative Reviews: 1 In fact, none of the TF movies have ever been considered 'Fresh' on Rotten Tomatos.

The colleague who said it was referring to the storyline I think. I tried to tune out because I don't want spoilers

Not going now,
transformers 3 still haunts. $40 for the movies is to steep for a run-of-the-mill picture, it has to be a "MUST SEE" for me to drag myself out and open my wallet. |

I hear ya... my wife and I have all but given up the movies. This is the first time we've been in over a year, and I don't think we'll be seeing anything else this year.
When you consider you can buy Game of Thrones on DVD for $50, those movie tickets quickly lose their appeal. Mind you, dumb action flicks are perfect if you are going to go - drama or comedy doesn't gain a lot from the massive screen, but a movie like Avengers is perfect.

Quote:
The thing for me about Avengers against say the x-men movies is that the build up has been done so well. Paramount and Marvel really played the long game over the last few years, the characters feel deeper and the foundations are rock solid. Not to mention the continuity in casting, which makes such a difference. The in-credits teaser shows the unmistakable chin of Thanos - could this suggest we will see the Silver Surfer join the next Avengers movie, or perhaps even a version of the Infinity Gauntlet with some Spidey / Wolverine / Dr Strange / Daredevil appearances? Either way if it takes another 5 years to come along, I'll be happy. |

Joss Whedon co-wrote it and directed it, and you could see his fingerprints all over it. Loki often reminded me of Spike, and it had that same 'family of screw-ups' vibe that his shows often had.
Glad it turned out so well. Between this and Cabin in the Woods he's on a hot streak.

Saw it last night in 3D. Was awesome! 3D sucks the big one though, I can't believe I called for it again. Hulk was absolutely the best!

I really enjoyed the 3D... made the big battle a joy to watch....
But then again we were right at the back, and that made a big difference to how we saw it - without having to move your head, your eyes are doing less work to keep up.

It was the halving of brightness and perceived frame rate that does it for me.
