Dell's RGB LED displays are very good, I recall they've got the widest colour gamut of consumer displays. But you can only get "true" colour if you've calibrated the display properly with hardware.
It won't be long until all displays are LED but at the moment it's still premium technology that isn't worth the extra price tag for the average consumer. |

On the subject of wallpapers and The Avengers, Louie Mantia just posted his S.H.I.E.L.D. wallpaper: http://mantia.me/wallpaper/shield/
All this talk of wallpapers has compelled me to changes. Andy's Room has served me well for 2012 so far. I've switched to this crazy awesome Star Wars one: ![]() Last edited by accidental; 09-05-2012 at 03:56 PM. |

I really like quite a few of those Mantia wallpapers. Some very elegant designs. Can see why he was hired by Apple to design icons.

Yeah I like that much of them are references to geek culture but they're not "geeky" or "testosterone-filled" like much fan art tends to be.

Reminds me of a Worms level but all slick and 3D-renderified.

It's come together okay; a Linux Ubuntu 11.10 desktop, with a Cairo-Dock (the dock at the top in the middle), and the other bits and pieces being provided by a program called Screenlets.
There's a thread on a Linux forum where people post their desktops, and i've managed to get a few really cool wallpapers from it, one of which was that last one i posted. I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 a couple of days ago, and i'm learning more about Ubuntu as i use and tweak it. For example, i now have the calendar and weather info intregrated into the top menu bar - makes for a cleaner looking desktop. My latest desktop is attached. You can see the Unity Launcher to the left, with a custom icon theme - i've set this launcher-bar to auto-hide, but showed it for the screenshot. Ubuntu has 4 different desktops, or workspaces that you can switch between on-the-fly, and you can have a different wallpaper for each. I found this cool program that lets you do this via a cool cube type effect - see the second attachment. You can also select the wallpaper behind the cube, and move it so you can see the top and bottom of the cube, and like these gears working away inside it ![]() I'm turning into a Linux Fanboy ![]() What do you reckon? |
