Just finished this. This is easily the most enjoyable and most impressive action game I've played on the 3DS. I know it's a port of a PS2 game, but I think it's a better example of a no-compromise, console-esque experience on the 3DS than Resident Evil: Revelations was.
I missed this when it first released on PS2 - I kinda wasn't gaming so much at the time, and the weirdness of MGS2 put me off Metal Gear somewhat. But this game is Metal Gear at its best. The gameplay's as unforgiving as all shit, but it's SO satisfying when you get in the zone and slowly make your way through sections without detection, etc. It can also get a little OTT in that crazy, Japanese game kinda way, but Kojima has some serious production values. Did anyone else pick this up? I'm so grateful that I got a second chance to check this out, and I'm super keen to play through MGS4 now. |

I think the demo wasn't a particularly great ambassador for this game. That said, I realise MG games are quite divisive and can be frustrating.

It's definitely cool, but I think you've probably had the ideal experience, having some sort of soft spot towards MGS but not having played it on the PS2. Personally I don't have time for it in the HD collection, and I found the 3D FPS view transition to 2D FPS looking down the sights to be jarring as hell!
