I'm guessing the torrent of bits is the best place to find them?

SPOILERS:

I felt like the way those characters' lives turned out was an interesting counter point to the false notion that says if you achieve any kind of fame and success famous your life will be better. Living in the past is no way to live. Some of them felt as if they'd been hard done by and that life wasn't kind to them. The fact is, life isn't kind to anyone. For all their winning at video games they became surprisingly defeatist about life.

It was a fascinating doco, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'd love to play this IRL, it's one of the top rated pins. I've got the option to buy a Doctor Who but I'm not sure about it. Are you a fan of the show? I imagine if you are the theme would really hit the spot.

I'm tossing up between a Bally World Cup Soccer (of John Popadiuk who designed Tales of the Arabian Nights, Cirqus Voltaire and Theatre of Magic) and a Data East Tales from the Crypt.

It all depends, it's incredibly variable depending on the brand and popularity of the machine and it's condition.

There's a guy in Auckland who has a bunch that he's getting rid of but most have been imported and are in a container. He's unsure of the exact condition of all the pins in the container but he's wanting to get rid of the as-is because he's going away and didn't have time to shop them all before selling as he planned when he imported them.

The Bally World Cup Soccer is from his own personal collection and it's in great shape, he'll sell it for around $2,600 – $2,800. It's probably worth that much if it's in the condition he says. The Data East Tales from the Crypt is one of the ones in the container and he said it'll probably be $2000 if it goes. This will surely need some work to get up to a good standard. It's worth around the same as a World Cup Soccer because although it's an inferior brand it's one of the best that Data East made (Jurassic Park, Guns & Roses and Tommy being other top DE pins).

They're sitting dead even for me right now and I'll decide when I learn the condition of TFTC.

Wonder how hard the tables are to work on?

would imagine it could be a pain to source the bits from overseas.

It doesn't seem too challenging especially if you stick to the more popular pins. Many of the parts are standard and interchangeable. Custom parts are mostly available through third party remakes as well.

A pretty sweet Jurassic Park just showed up on Trademe. That looks like a winner if it's not priced too high — looks like the best combination of art/sound/theme and deep gameplay that is fun for beginners and challenging for long-term play.

I'd have to figure out how to get it to Wellington from Auckland though — I'm guessing shipping companies cost a bomb.
