Agreed. It's douchey to call people out on it — and for the most part I don't — but, still, how are people going to learn?

In a professional sense — such as e-mailing a colleague or customer, or writing documentation — getting this stuff wrong isn't a good look. If I'm emailing a client and make basic grammatical mistakes it affects my professional image. Grammatical mistakes are worse than typos because they're not simply typos, they're an indication of real incompetence. Socially we owe it to ourselves to get this stuff right. It's akin to dressing smartly or having good personal hygiene.

You can make the argument that it shouldn't matter because there is the tendency for this to marginalise people and if only we ignored it (or lowered our standards) we might have a fairer society. It's a good point but I think there are far better reasons to preserve the integrity of our written and spoken language than there are to ignore it.

On a related note, might I compliment you on your fine use of em-dash parenthesis in that last post?

I agree that this stuff should be called out in a professional sense. Otherwise, like in forums and on Twitter etc, it's not the end of the world.

I'm one of those people that will make pedantic use of punctuation in a text message, though, even if it means I have to take two messages to say what I'm trying to say :P

People who can't go 100km/hr on the motorway but have no problem doing 65 - 70 in a 50km/hr zone.

YES. And people driving caravans or trailers that can't drive fast but won't pull over to let the queue behind them get past. Leads directly to frustrated drivers making dangerous passes and causing accidents.

I tried four diff spellings and Google didn't find the right one at all. I make no excuses for my poor spelling nor do I expect others to judge me for it.

They are average drivers... they drive at the average speed limit no matter what zone they are in. (Average of 100 & 50 = 75).

Stop being mean to them.

Just to re-iterate, i was just joking - nothing more than a bit of ribbing. I know spelling isn't your strong point Soulless, and i'm totally fine with it. It was a just a bit of fun in a "Most annoying" thread.

It's others who have decided that it's cool to call people names when their opinion differs from theirs. It's essentially saying "I find this annoying" in an "Annoying Things" thread, and someone else responding with "Oh that's not annoying at all, you're just a cnut"

Might be worthwhile locking this thread. I can't see it turning out well, TBH.

In the meantime, i'll try and get it back on track

Annoying; The drivers that do 80kph on the open road, and then speed up to 110 when they hit a passing lane - FARK!!! I know there's some science behind it, drivers feeling more confident with two lanes, when they're less 'hemmed-in' (or something like that). Still makes me rage though.

Cyclists who decide they're suddenly pedestrians and ride across the red traffic lights with the pedestrians when the signals go green/'walk'. Cyclists who ride across pedestrian/zebra crossings - i don't stop for them. Ever. They tend to move pretty quickly.

And they wonder why road-users have no respect for them!

Ive always wondered what makes people speed up at passing lanes (but not pass)

i think its cause the roads wider?

rages me etc, also people who dont "merge like a zip"

Lol I wonder how the court case would turn out if you killed a rider on a zebra crossing. It's kind of like running down a jay-walking pedestrian: completely the pedestrian's fault for ignoring the rules
Riders who ride with the green walk light are pretty rude, that is against the rules. Also rude and annoying are drivers who do 51km/h in a 50 zone.
My pet road hate would be people who cross double yellow lines so they can move up into a turning lane. If I'm coming towards them I stick hard to my right side of the yellow line too, but haven't managed to actually crash into one yet. I don't quite know how that kind of crash would turn out in a court case either xD.
Driving is funny sometimes.

Dogs are annoying.

I'd like to think that the evidence would indicate that the person was actually riding at the time, so clearly not a pedestrian. You could potentially argue that they were riding along the road, and then suddenly swerved out in front of you. There just happened to be a crossing right where they swerved.
