Default Coffee snobbery and espresso science

Does anyone here take their coffee as "serious business"?

I'm well on the way to being a coffee snob as I went shopping for an $800 coffee GRINDER (yes that's right - just a grinder) and ended up with a $1000 one.

Don't worry - I didn't pay $1000. I managed to score a 2nd hand ex-commercial use machine for well under half that cost.

If the thought of spending hundreds of dollars on a coffee GRINDER makes you think I'm crazy, then obviously this isn't the thread for you. But if you can understand why I'd spend more on my grinder than on my espresso machine (a 4 year old cheap-ass model from Briscoes on special), then let's talk

Are we talking instant? Either that or you spend a lot of money on coffees.

For you out there that don't know a Mazzer is the Coffee grinder and It's just a old one we had at the Cafe so they took it home. If your lucky Waxer might have taken a camera to work to get a pic of a real coffee machine. As for snobs we get a lot of people trying to tell us how to make coffee at work all the time (Like I don't no how to make a coffee only been doing it for 8 years) and had my own house hold mini machine Krups since I was 17. But back to topic. I drink between 5 to 10 cafe style coffee's and some of those are my own recipe sm tulip cup dopio its a dbl strength short blk then add a dash of milk or long blks or flat whites. We use a local coffee called Fusion. We had our own blend but They sold to new owners and don't want to roast a batch a week just for us. We go though between 3-5kg off peek and summer 8-12kg if not more of beans.

Sounds a bit of a personal question to me....... do you have to shave it?

I don't drink coffee but I do remember some friends from Ruatoria coming to town and going for a coffee here in Napier. When the person behind the counter started asking them whether they wanted espresso, cappuccino, short black they got a "WTF are you talking about I asked for a coffee"

Eventually they ordered various bits and pieces.

You should have seen the reaction when they one got a tiny little cup with some black crap in it and another got a big soup bowl with foam a mile high on the top.

Ahhhhhh how to complicate things for commercial gain.

Hot damn Waxer.

I like coffee, more a tea person though.

Been drinking resurgence coffee. It had been freshly roasted, and it made my house smell like a coffee house for days.
