Default Mexican Specialities

There are few places in New Zealand that do Mexican food well, and of those I haven’t found a single one that makes anything other than the typical Tex-Mex stuff, Mexican Specialities in Ellerslie is the exception to the rule and I finally got the chance to try it out yesterday. The Cafe is only open 3 days a week but that is a fare trade off for the quality that you can expect, the ingredients are fresh and the flavours are fantastic. I got a beef taco at the recommendation of Maria, wasn’t disappointed, full of tender beef fillet and a rich sauce, the top of the taco was seasoned with a dusting of some type of addictive sweet red powder which (must find out what it was). I also ordered a very refreshing lemon and lime drink to accompany the taco, then I went back to try the enchiladas as well, not because I felt overly hungry but because I wanted to make good use of the opportunity of being in Auckland.

Next time you are in Auckland on one of their days of operation make sure allow time to stop by and get something to eat. The service is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere perfect. If you can’t visit them in Auckland take the time to visit their newly created website which also sells Mexican food products and other related items.
