Default ADSL2+

Ok, so I've just sold my soul to the devil (Telecom) and ordered ADSL2+

As part of the deal they've supplied me with a Thomson ST536v6 gateway. Anybody familiar with these? ie are they cheap n nasty and there's someting else I should be using?

Can I use my DSL-502T for adsl2+?

My neighbour has one - it's a big pile of donkey do do if you know what you're doing with routing - it is missing so many features and the telnet interface is utterly shat.

But, if you want something that you can plug in and it will go - it seems to be fine.

For the average home user they are fine...I rather like the new slick white speedtouch..make sure you find and click the restart modem in the interface, otherwise when you do a power reset it can default back to user@xtrabb.co.nz as the username.

I would use the speedtouch over the D-Link any day.

If you're going to buy a router, Linksys is your best bet.

If you're awesome - buy a Cisco :P

I'm happy with the D=Link DSL502T and its allready setup to give my 360 full and priority access. Can I continue to use it?

Yip, you'll just need to change the username/password to your new telecom one.

Sounds about right - my neighbors is pretty good for a cheap router.

UPnP works wonderfully for XB360!

Hey DoubleMANTIS

Hope you don't mind me chucking a quick question in here. I have a 502T as well and when I check my connection on the dashboard blades it says I have an open NAT but when I load up Halo 3 it says I don't have an open NAT. Any idea?

If I were to change from my 502T whats a good choice at a reasonable price?

How much are you willing to spend?

Whom is your provider?

Yeah, but my networking aint so flash, was a hassle (for me) to give my xbox priorty over the pc and to get an open NAT. I spent about an hour on the phone with support to get it right.

This is what I currently get with standard ADSL, a 502T and DGL-4300.

How easy would the thomson be to set up??

Yeah, but how much better will the ADSL2+ be

The line attenuation is pretty low so I guess I'm pretty close to the exchange
