Got R2 for Xmas and have been playing it over the last few nights in single player mode.

My first thoughts were that it was going to fast in the opening levels , and I am still a bit worried that I am already near the end of the game.
That aside, the rest of the game (single player) is brilliant.
The sound track is just amazing. I have a reasonable 7.1 setup and walking through the forest outside Oric was very atmospheric. I could hear the chameleons before they got to close. The trees and light coming through was very well done too.
The graphics on a whole are superby, the weapons are all very detailed and the view of ammo flying through the air is great.
I've just finished fighting the swarm and that whole swarm freaked me out a number of times.
I don't believe this game is worse that R:FOM I think it is better, I just hope the single player does not end to quick as I am enjoying it so much.
Once I have beaten single player I will have a look at multiplayer - but I have to also play James Bond Quantum of Solice (another Xmas pressy) and COD:WAW. - not enough time

The forest and the hoard were definitely my two favourite parts. It sounds like you still have abit to go before finishing the SP.

Man I played this last night as my mate got a ps3 for xmas and he said the coop on resistance (he rented a ps3 ages ago) one was fun so we rented #2 assuming the coop would be just as fun.

Now granted we should of researched to see if the campaign was actually coop so that is kinda our fault. But no coop for the campaign is pretty weak.

So we tried out the coop missions that come with the game. Can't say much more other than we were highly dissapointed. This game plays like a shooter from the 90's. I felt really disconnected from the game.

The weapons have no kick to them, there's no real indication of you taking damage or the impact of your bullets on the enemy. The AI is very weaksauce. The best example of this being one of the giant chimera (a boss one with a health bar) being unable to navigate himself out of the room he spawned in. The game has crappy physics too oh and player movement feels so fake as well unlike most modern shooters.

The game just has nothing on other current shooters. Is this the best the ps3 currently has to offer it's shooter customers? Very sad.

Well, as with the 360 the PS3 has exclusives plus multi-platform titles. If Resistance 2 is not your thing then try COD: World at War. Keep your digs at other platforms to other sites as its not wanted here.

In all honestly I find Resistance 2 better than COD:WAW but I have not played a great FPS since the original Halo.

Don't restart a month old argument? Why not? It's a free country! Don't like it? Stop responding then?!?! FFS!!!

I'm not giving an opinion on the review, other than saying it seems balanced. I'm giving an opinion on you guys slamming Brian for not liking the game as much as you, for not detailing game modes he didn't play - it's shitty.

Synboi, i'm not really too sure why you're getting so uppity about all this - people have different opinions on stuff; deal with it.

And Morock, your silence is deafening

I'm gonna jump in here and defend the game right about now ;D

1. It was a bit of a disappointment about no offline multiplayer (2 player co-op, but it's damn hard), however, Insomniac has said what they have said,

"We wanted to try something new, never done before"

and so they focused on the single player experience and made a separate campaign for 8 players.

2. You felt more immersed in Doom and Half-Life than Resistance? perhaps you should give them a go again ;D

3. If the weapons have no kick to them, I don't quite know what you mean... Perhaps you should get a Dualshock? Or if you don't find them satisfying, I don't know what you will. Personally, I love firing chainsaw blades at enemies while bursting open shields and lobbing grenades which send out 30 spikes in enemy aliens....Huh

4. Like MOST OTHER SHOOTERS NOWADAYS the damage is indicated by the blood on the screen, your reduced vision, sound of a heartbeat and colour. Perhaps new ears and eyes will aid you

5. Are you talking about the Titans or the Primarch Steelheads? Steelheads defend the rooms they're in, but Titans can get stuck. Or perhaps a medic stunned them with the Chloroform ability? However, the Ai is admittedly a weaker point of the co-op, and yet I still find myself snuck up upon and killed. With 50+ enemies onscreen, I'm happy with the brains they have, and thankful they don't have many more

6. Crap physics? There aren't many physics other than when the Titans explode. Unless you want full on destructibility, in which case I say you can only play something like Battlefield: Bad Company, though the gameplay in that feels alot worse than in Resistance 2, especially in the areas you have raised

7. Movement fake? It's just fast-paced my dear, I'm rather happy about being able to run around across a mile-wide map without drudging about and the camera attached to a dragging rope behind me

8. Great single player experience with well-done bosses, 60 player online comeptitive modes, 8 player co-operative campaign complete with MMO styled leveling up system and weapons, clan support, and a wide range of weapons. You're right, it does have nothing special about it

Then again, all this is an opinion with tidbits here and there, and you should probably ignore it all

Where did I say I felt more immersed in doom or half life? I clearly stated I didn't play the single player so I can't comment on resistance's campaign at all.

Sorry, thought of shooters from the 90s, and those were them

Finished the single player just over 9hrs.
Have to say I do not understand the bad reviews across the net for this.
The story was involving, the levels varied, all of which where well designed with tension in the right places. 9/10 for me.

What difficulty did you complete it on? I first finished it on Casual (habit) and am now going through on Difficult, then Superhuman. I actually found Casual to be quite... challenging, not difficult, but I found myself overwhelmed at times. Difficult actually doesn't seem too much harder

I did it on Casual as well and got overwhelmed a few times as well. Whenever I got a Auger though I was able to clear them nasties away easily. The new auger makes getting headshots through walls real easy.
I am going to do a run through on difficult next , and try and get a few more trophies that I missed out on first time round.
