Simon Dallow is reporting "Live" at the Police Cordon tonight.
After his introduction, he crosses live to another reporter "live at the scene" - she is on the far side of the Police Cordon. WTF?? She added nothing by being at the other boundary of the cordon (not that Live crosses add much ANYWAY). Then he interviews her about events today. Why the hell weren't they just next to each other? After this he crosses to yet another reporter live in Napier, at yet another place around the cordon. And again he interviews her. Seriously WTF is this circus?? |

I heard someone comment about the ridiculous recent trend of "crossing live to a reporter in our newsroom". He said "why not just invite them into the studio from next door?".
In the industry, live crosses are known simply as "lives". A comment about the recent swine flu TV news coverage was that there were "more lives than deaths". |

The whole thing was gay espesh the part where they had the mum running to greet her son who was trapped in the flat within the cordon.

that is so true. we switched channels when this happened as we were disgusted by the media circus going on around it.
I hardly ever watch the news now as most of it is repeated from the morning news and the only thing that I find they report on impartially is the weather! If any of you have watched the BBC or algezra (I think thats how its spelled) you realize that we have pathetic news reports in comparison. |

I no longer watch the news for some of those reasons and I just prefer to read it on the net.

Oh my god. let's start a regular feature here "Media Watch" where we post stupid stuff in the news.
One News tonight: Headline: "Cholesterol lowering drugs prevent lung cancer in smokers". The truth: "There is absolutely no proof that this statement is correct, but it might be and needs to be studied". This is NEWS? Furthermore the health correspondent reporting this story was "live at the scene" at a retail pharmacy. What the hell? |

Like the live cross to Rangitoto College the other week - Live, outside a closed school, at 6pm, in darkness.
Can't remember what the story was about. Something big. |

Media is mostly, if not all, sensationalist - it's less about reporting the news than it is about getting viewers.
For most people the whole "live" at the scene adds credibility to the reporting despite the fact that there's almost nothing extra that can be done or reported on while crossing live... |

![]() This was a comment about the Swine Flu. Obviously students from the College were suspected to have the flu. The live cross was as you said - outside the school, at night, on a weekend, DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. LOL |

Oh yeah that's right; The Big Swine Flu Letdown of 2009. What a fizzer that was!
![]() But yeah, that live cross was a total waste of resources. |

The last few nights TV One has been "live at the scene" at the Racecourse Hotel in Christchurch where Matt Johns allegedly had a sex romp (alone I might add) 7 years ago.
"Good evening I'm live at the scene and behind me is the room in which this sex romp happened 7 years ago". Aha. Like the demons that remain there are revealing new information that the on-site reporter can gather. Is TV3 doing the same? |

To be honest i haven't noticed it that much on TV3, which we normally watch (as it seems much less stuffy than One News). Lately we have been watching One News though, as there's bugger all on TV at 5.30, so we end up on Wheel of Fortune and then One News by default.
Am going to start watching 3 News again anyway - over all these BS live crosses. |
