Default Wellington ADSL - Advice wanted

Guys,

I'm moving house at the end of the month and the new place is outside the coverage for Telstra cable.

What's a good deal for ADSL in the region ??

I probably use 10Gb-15Gb a month.

Thanks,
Matt.

Most places are about the same these days if you are outside of Telstra's area.

I'm with Telecom at the moment 49.95 for 10gig. TBH I should have a look around and see what else is on offer, so I'll be paying attention.

move to an area with cable ? :P

I'm with Telstra - seems okay, TCL's overage charges are well structured.

Vodafone is quite quick. Low lag too. Xnet is cheaper though

I haven't had much of a look because I'm stuck with TCL cable. Looking at nzconnection.net though, slingshot has...

Price:$39.95 per month
Speed:256kbps/128kbps
Data:15GB

Free dial-up if you're homeline is with them.
ISP Plans: NZ Connection.net

Why not move to DSL with Telstraclear?

Only 2 providers will give you good international bandwidth and thats Telstra and Telecom.

Depending on where you are - Some parts of Wellington City are getting adsl 2 - which would be a buzz - I'm on the 20 gig xtra plan, and am pretty happy with it

I asked about that and the problem is that they will only do DSL with a land line as well. I'm not changing my landline (vodafone wireless) because I get unlimited calls between my cell, my wifes cell, the home line and my daugthers pre-paid for $20 a month. And the home line covers free national call 24/7 (our family is all in ChCh so this is important).

Orcon look like they are doing a good deal as well.

I might ring Orcon, vodafone and slingshot in the next day or so.

A friend of mine is with Slingshot, as he can't get Telstra Cable in his region either. The best they can do is 1.5Mb/s which is pretty lame. Mind you, I don't know what the best speed ADSL can do is anyway –*that might be pretty good :S

I am switching from Vodafone to Orcon as soon as my contract is up with Voda, you know where I live and I will get ADSL2 with orcon if that is a good indication. No phone line required with Orcon either

Watch though - because of how wholesale is done, it can be a real prick to get anything other than your providers adsl unless you go nudie...
