Default PSUbuntu

Anyone here had a go at this?

Thinking about doing it just for kicks and I'm a fidget so have to have a crack at everything?

You have to create a partition specifically for it, which requires a drive wipe. You can backup and restore of course, but it does create a bit of a hassle (and risk).

I did it when I upgraded my hard drive because it was the best time to do it.

IIRC, you partition 10GB to Linux, or 10GB to the PS3 system. I think you'd be mad not to partition 10GB to Linux. As for backing up, quite alot of stuff doesn't, which is very annoying :/

^ Yip.

I'm holding off on upgrading to firmware 3.0 to see if there is anything changed now that the slims no longer support Linux. Don't really want a 10gb partition left on my drive that does nothing.

Sounds too compo/risky for me. Think I'll pass on the idea

Well did it, piece of piss.

I didn't have much to back up as we were robbed recently so it was a fresh PS3 anyway.

Was a waste of time really, dont think we'll ever use it, just another feature to show off to peeps when the time comes

Blu-ray backup.

So, with the firmware 3.0 upgrade, does it still work? Haven't switched my PS3 on yet.

It seems like a good idea to me just so the ps3 can play cool media like .mkv and suchforth. Currently I stream stuff to the ps3 so I can watch it on tv but the ps3 is retard at reading pretty much everything except xvid avi.

However, I don't think I can be bothered if it requires any sort of drive wipe partitioning. Hmm. That and my little 40GB can't really spare the 10GB for ubuntu, lol.

Can ubuntu on the ps3 read files on the ps3 partition, I hope? It seems sensible to think so, but you never know.
