Default Button Masher Podcast #3

Enthusiasm, Anger, and Apathy. We bring the trifecta. Brian's back from E3, and loaded with stuff to talk about, and interviews to share. Oh, it's also the most disgustingest, swearingest, edgiest, craziest, unrehearsiest podcast we've ever recorded. Man I can't wait 4 Left 4 Dead 2 B 4 sale.

This weeks podcast features interviews with David Reeves (President of SCEE) and Peter Moore (President of EA Sport)

While I love the podcasts, might I make a small suggestion?

60mins is rather long for a podcast, and while I can appreciate it, it might put off more casual viewers of the site

LOL, lets wait for DoubleMANTIS to come in and say the opposite.

This one was longer than normal because of the interviews. Normally we aim for about 30-40 minutes.

Just like to say to Brian - well done on the E3 interviews. They were probably the best interviews I heard out of E3.
You did a great job! Well done

Was I listening correctly, it sounded like David Reeves told us to download PSP games off torrents?!

Cheers RF, for me the Interviews were the best part of E3 (well, that along with playing some rad games)

My show notes:

* I have to disagree on your evaluation of the Press Conferences – the dash update is huge with 8-person chat and ripping games to the HDD. The new footage from Gears 2, Fable 2, RE5 and Fallout3 was better then Sony’s ‘this game is coming, you can’t see it, but trust us- its going to be great… lolz’.
And the Exclusive 360 Fallout3 DLC was a big deal. To me at least.

* EA’s conference was pretty great

* L4D sounds hot. GaR, please shout away from the mic.

* Peter Moore is awesome. He always comes across as fairly sincere and still manages to be quite funny. For example, how frankly he dealt with the questions around EA’s reputation.
He also understands the fandom, and when he speaks directly to the hard-core crowd he is talking ‘our’ language. You can hear that he really knows about the games that he’s promoting and he’s familiar with the details of the individual titles (even ones well outside of his sports department).
I didn’t care when Bungie left Microsoft… but when Peter went to EA, Microsoft lost its biggest asset. I’m thinking that he was a massive part of what made the 360 appeal to the hardcore crowd in the first instance.

* Fable 2 Crap? Heathen!!!
I think you shouldn’t touch action RPGs anymore. Actually – just step away from all of the RPGs. You’re obviously not the target market.
I thought that the Too Human demo is awesome, and think fable 2 looks great. I’m expecting a HD Fable, and it looks like F2 will be exactly what I want it to be. (And yes, you have to care about the dog)

Just as a Side note, Reasons I want to play Fable/Too Human and not WOW:
- A Story
- I can play without having to party up with loud-mouthed 12-year-old yanks to complete raids
- Less Grinding
- The game is focused on me
- You can have fun without being level 70
- I can shape the world
- I don’t have to worry about having the right ‘build’
- No emos

Seriously, why even look at action RPGs? At this stage, hearing you say an action RPG sucks probably counts as a recommendation to RPG fans.

* RTS I wanted to hear about was End War with the voice controls. I hear that it works fairly well.

* Sony guy was okay - but he sounded a little bit like a pillock. He wasn't anywhere as clicked on as I thought he'd be and he sounded like he wasn't really sure on some of the details.

* Eating ass is gross.

and other stuff.
See the thing is that most people only have 20gb harddrives. I am not going to buy another harddrive to write games to disc.

Fallouts DLC announcement? Well GTA seemed really important at the time, but now I couldn't really care less. (did I also mention that I don't like RPG's?)

As for Fable2 yes I do need to stop playing RPG's I felt oblidged to play it there cause evryone was interested in it. I haven't written a preview yet for this reason as well. I don't want to put people off something that might be perfectly acceptable for the poor fools that like RPG's.

I might... it will really help some games, and it means you can run multidisk games with a single disk.

Well, the DLC hasn't come out for GTA yet - we don't know if it's a big deal or not.
But some of the Oblivion content is really good, so I hoping for more of the same from Fallout.

Well, that's because you suck!

I used to know a Gamesman manager who would recomend games to me like this; "It's the worst game I played all year and I hated every moment of it. I might sell my 360 just so there is no chance I'll ever play it again. You should buy it."
He totally had me pegged.
