Post your top reads, or your recommendations for fellow mashers who love a good book. (get a few on here, maybe get it as a sticky)
-Bravo two Zero by Andy McNab- SAS in 1st Iraq war. (bit of controversy around it, but still a great read) - Apache by Ed Macy - British Apache chopper pilot in Afghanistan 2006. AWESOME....could actually be a brilliant movie/game. - In the company of heroes - Biography of Mike Durant - Pilot who was shot down in Black Hawk Down. - Mass Effect: Revelation - Pre-quel to ME1. A must for fans of the game. |

- The Forever War by Joe Haldeman - hardcore tech based sci-fi action.
- Friday by Robert A Heinlein - Marjorie Friday, coolest chick EVARR! - The Dice Man by Luke Reinhart - "If i pick up that card and the die underneath it is showing a 2, i'm going downstairs to rape Arlene". It was a 2. - American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis - truly brutal black comedy about a psychopathic murderer. Only book i've ever seen an R18 rating on and sealed so you can't flick through it in the shop. - Use of Weapons by Iain M Banks - epic sci-fi, The Chairmaker; one fucked up twist. - LA Confidential by James Ellroy - gritty take-no-prisoners crime fiction set in 1950's LA, with punchy prose which is WAY better than the movie (which was pretty damn good in itself) - Mr Nice by Howard Marks - very funny true story of an international marijuana dealer. Gazza, you'd like this ![]() |

The Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay - The TV show was inspired from these books, and the first half the first book is almost identical to the first season. The show has deviated enough from the books for them to be just as enjoyable.
Revelation Space series by Alastair Reynolds - Epic 3 book space opera. I hear it even has the Gar seal of approval. |

I also enjoy the military books.
I have one called The Shooting Gallery by Gaz Hunter. He was a senior NCO in B squad from the Bravo Two Zero missions but had been assigned to Columbia instead of with his squad in the Gulf War much to his disgust. Also really enjoy some other Non-Fiction books by Antony Beevor, a military historian. His books Berlin, and Stalingrad are very good reads. He has just released one on Normandy and the DDay landings which I am sure will be good. I have that one coming for Christmas. |

I'm currently reading The Laws of Magic series by Michael Pryor and loving it. Might be a bit teen-ish for you old folks though
![]() Mixes magic with science in a way I love, probably why I was so drawn to Full Metal Alchemist. Magic becomes an applicable practice rather than some willy-nilly art that people just kindof have. Also quite political in some parts. I'd recommend His Dark Materials series, the Atheist's Narnia |
