The only real cats are Postman Pats. Here's our cat history......

Cat growing up in Taumarunui was called Dingle. He ate two weetbix every morning and lived to be about 15 or so. Had to be put down when he got cat flu. Was really good at getting the neighbours to feed him as well.

No pictures of him that I can find but I'm thinking you can probably tell what he looked like.

Flatting in Pitt Street in Wanganui was our first cat Shannon. Named after the song by Henry Gross.



Eventually we were living by the racecourse in Wanganui where she could roam to her heart's content. She clearly roamed enough to have a litter of kittens.



From this litter we kept Amanda and had enough friends who wanted a free cat to give the rest away.



Sadly Amanda went missing one Guy Fawkes. We scoured the race course looking for her but never did. A couple of years later we found her skeleton under the neighbours house. Her collar had got hooked on a nail and she obviously couldn't get free.

When we moved to Ingestre Street in Wanganui Shannon came with us but kept running away and eventually we didn't come back. A couple of years later I was walking by the Community College at dusk and this cat came running out of the bushes and up to me. It was scruffy but it was Shannon and she clearly knew who I was.. Took her back home and cleaned her up but she kept running back to the Community College.

She seemed happy enough being fed by the students and hanging around. Lots of people seemed to know of her so we left her there.

We then got "Louie Louie" again named after the song.



Transferring to Napier Louie came with us. He got to travel on the bus and was stuck into the motel we were staying in til we found a flat.


He lived for close to 10 years but had developed a bad abscess in his abdomen and was eventually put down when this burst.

We had a cat gap before we got one of our current two cats "Shadows". He's now about 12, can only really see out of one eye, and has a bit of arthritis. Nothing wrong with his hearing though - try and feed the other cat quietly and he's instantly there.


First my food's in shiny metal things, then it flies and now this! How's a cat supposed to eat?

Shads went missing one Christmas Holidays and after a couple of weeks we got another cat "Mystic".

We were most surprised a couple of weeks on when Shads turned up at 8:00 o'clock in the morning skinny as. Our best guess is he got locked in someone's garage who went on holiday. Person unlocked garage on Monday to go to work and voila.


This runaway tissue box just ran into my house! Made an awful noise and just look at the mess.

Mystic was the funniest cat we have had. He would lay down and flatten himself on the floor and was so convinced you couldn't see him - I'm really good at hiding!

The neighbours across the road brought him over to us in a plastic bag shortly after this photo. They had seen him by the car but backed out of the driveway anyway and run him over. Was very sad.


My wife by now however liked the idea of having two cats instead of one. She rescued a cat from a litter of kittens that were gradually being accidentally trodden on and killed by their intellectually disabled owners. Hence we got "Chance" cause he had fat chance of living if he stayed where he was.



Chance did had a few issues with daughters stuffed toys but a trip off to the vet soon "fixed" that. My wife however maintains he is sexist as though she rescued him he will only purr for me. Hand him over to her and he immediately stops purring.

By some unwelcome coincidence though, I arrived home tonight to find our elderly brain-damaged-from-strokes cat was in a very bad way... we took her down to the after hours to have her put down but she didn't make it T_T

Sorry to hear that. It's always hard when one of your pets goes. There does reach a time where it is kinder to have them put down rather than live in pain - it's even harder picking when that time is.

If you get a new cat you'll have to post some pics up.

Remember though real cats are black and white.

Awwww..... I love cats too, though dogs seem to take a shining to me for some unknown reason (just ask Teljam)
My cat from when I was at school currently lives with my parents as he is too old to rehome - 16 from memory (Black with a white chest..... or at least he was before changing to brown with age) I miss him heaps as he lives in Whangarei and I'm Wellytown.
We had to have the wifes cat put to sleep just before we went to rarotonga as his kidneys had given up on him R.I.P Jaspa (was quite a character really, would only drink water running from the tap) and last month our other cat got run over by the neighbours R.I.P Chino my little Ginger friend.... so now we have a little crazy bastard of a cat who comes to whatever name you decide to call him C*nt seems to work most times!!

anyways I will edit this with pictures once I find some.... but until then here's nom nom kitteh to laugh at!!

not true. i believe cats can be very tasty, depending on seasoning. Also i will not bow down to our Microsoft Overlords and pay for everything that they chuck at me.

Great thread Nol, really appreciated reading your catography! And checking out your cats too emetic!

Man, I love cats! Here are mine!!



Paco (left) and Miklo (right), brother and sister. I have had these 2 since they were the weeest of kittens, taken from a stray that gave birth near my Mum's house (she has since taken in the stray - she is a cat fan too and has 5!). Sadly Paco passed away last year as he was born with a congenital heart defect which made his heart grow constantly. Still chokes me up thinking about it - I loved the little guy. We had him cremated and now he has a little memorial next to the TV <3 We spent almost $2000 doing various tests and scans to try and fix him, and for 2 students this was an insane amount of money (although i'd pay anything to have him back). So I organised a benefit show which 2 of my bands played at and we raised a great deal of that money to help with the costs.



About year after Paco passed, another little cat came into our lives. A friend of ours who has 2 cats, took in an abandoned cat from her sisters vet clinic. Unfortunately, her 2 cats would not accept this new guy, so she asked if we could take him in. After making sure Miklo wouldn't reject him, he started living with us. We named him Gomez, keeping with the mexican names (and kinda named after Gomez from the Addams family).

Here he is helping me study.



He is seriously a great cat, such a funny character. So talkative and friendly, sleeps IN the bed every night. So lucky to have him in our lives. Miklo gets cranky with him sometimes, but he just loves her so much. It seems like he is totally fascinated by her, cause I don't think he ever had any cat friends before he got to us.

Our Sunny didn't get cremated o-o We drove her up to the top of the port hills late at night and buried her up there ^^;; Hopefully it's in an inconspicious place... it's hard to tell at night.
