I guess people where expecting alot more.. But i can understand dissapointment... So long in development and yet riddled with defects (ala GT5)

Still, i think you buy it more cause its Duke Nukem than you do cause' its Duke Nukem on current gen systems?

I'll wait for a bigtime price drop here..

After beating the game you unlock videos and pictures from throughout DNF's long, pained devalopment. Interesting to see which ideas were kept and which were cut. There are some things in the early trailers I'd have loved to see.

Yeah i kinda expected it to be slammed really, and there are some very old school components to it. Like the whole "Door closes behind you, fight a bunch of dudes before the next door opens" mechanic.

Personally, i'm liking it, and i think Viv memtioned that the Duke-ness of it all kinda makes up for how shabby it is - how i feel too.

I really want to like this game, and i do, but i'm also willing to admit that i most definitely have my nostalgia-inducing rose-tinted glasses on.

Oh and hell yes - f**k those loading times. That's the one old school aspect i f**King hate about this game.

I'm sure you guys have seen that pic of the guy that has a pre-order receipt from gamestop for dnf from 2001. well he's going to try and redeem it when it releases in the US.

http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/sh...d.php?t=124676

I'll also chuck this in here. an interview from mid april with scott miller from 3drealms talking about dnf why it took so long and some other interesting things like how the group of 10 developers they funded after 3drealms closed finished the pc version. watch from about the 16minute mark

Rented it over the weekend and got up to the Hive Queen last night, where my natural aversion to Boss Fights sent me to bed.

I understand people not being overawed by the game, but it does hold true to that classic style of shooter and either for nostalgia or new players those mechanics do have a sense of fun.

I imagine that a lot of the development cycle has been spent refreshing textures to the standard of the day at the time.

Did I enjoy the experience so far? Mostly yes.

Was I underwhelmed? Not really, how could it surpass the expectations we have been given by the cinematic shooters of today.

Would I pick it up and finish it off? Yes, one day in a sale around $20 or a longterm loan.

I'm playing on Normal, and have only just got up to the Hive Queen - she's a bitch indeed! I think the criticism of this game has been kinda harsh really.

I mean, you're not going to get the same sort of options as you do in a game like Mass Effect, you're gonna get locked in a room with a bunch of enemies, and you have to kill them all before the door at the other end opens.

But then, that's Duke - were people expecting a Duke themed "Action RPG" or something?

I haven't played this, but I don't think the "what did people expect?" line that many people seem to be using in defence of Duke absolves the game of its horrid scores

My gripe is that they pick out issues that are there in big-name games (*Cough*CoD*Cough*), but rant at DNF about it while the big name game doesn't get called on it at all.
I guess gearbox doesn't pay as much as Activision.

And I think that some are marking it harder then they need to just because they can.
