I got this for $1700 and that was around April. Best place to get advice for parts and price is on the Computer Lounge Forums.

Moosers build is very good apart from the graphics card i would go for a GTX 480 and an extra 2gb of ram to make it 6gb. Doing that would give you an amazing rig.

If you want to save cash and have a better machine you can build it yourself which is what a few others and myself did.

Horseshit. I run a Phenom II X4 3.4 and it cranks everything I've thrown at it at full detail. And I've thrown some things at it. Incidentally, if you're going for an X4, might as well get the 3.4ghz black CPU. It's only slightly more expensive than the 3.2.

That's with an HD5850 and 4gb of RAM, mind, which ain't hardly cutting edge these days.

Even Dirt 3 on ultra (high post processing, 4xAA) at 1080P benchmarks at 42fps average, and Dirt 3 is brutal on hardware.

The system requirements for BF3 aren't very intimidating. My rig meets or exceeds everything on the recommended list. They only list a 6850, which isn't as grunty as a 5850 (replaces the 5830, y'see).

Here's a useful little chart from the BF3 thread.

I agree Gar that specs for Bf3 won't be as crazy as a lot think, once optimized properly.

Dice would be working on minimum specs, so majority PC crowd won't have to fork out
Thousands.

Even older gpu's will make it look far better than consoles.

Yup ive got a 580 and now 8gb ram. Any way theres no point going 6gb ram on the Sandy Bridge chips as they will only run at single channel (I believe) where as the X58 chip set will allow it as it has 6 slots for DDR3 Ram.

^^ Word. Turning off antialiasing and cranking shaders and texture detail down a notch will net huge increases in FPS while looking no worse than the console version.

maybe some of you can give me some advice. Im thinking of building my first pc. I have decided to go with AMD and heres what i got so far.

I need help to just confirm that my parts are compatible with eath other (pretty sure the mobo ram cpu are and i would guess the graphics card will fit in this mobo?).

case: mid tower dark fleet df.10
cpu: AMD Phenom 2x4 black edition 3.2ghz
mobo: GIGABYTE GA-880GM usb3 am3 hdmi micro atx
ram: g skill ripjaw x series 8gb(2x4) 240pinddr3 (i would run them in dual channel). graphics card: Evga gtx 560 1gb geforce
PSU: antec earthwatts 650w atx 12v (is it enough? think i might wanna oc in future) hdd: samsung spinpoint 7200rpm 32mb also i would get a sata dvd writer.

SO what do you guys think? All the parts should be compatible? Is my psu enough? that graphics card would fit that mobo? do i need a cpu cooler or can i just use stock? plz dnt link me newegg deals wich are better because i live in new zealand and i don't want an intel thanks, appreciate any help.

(btw main function of pc would be bf3 above all else. I dnt think its gnna be as demaning as people think). also i would need it to hook up to my sony bravia instead of a monitor thanks!

btw i live in new zealand so newegg deals arent any good to me thanks alot.

Ok ive done a build on Computer Lounge and for what you want there I came up with this

Antec Dark Fleet DF-10 Mid Tower ATX Case $129.00
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 $168.95
Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 Kit CL9 $179.00
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX560 Ti Superclocked 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E (01G-P3-1563-KR) $399.00
Seasonic M12II Bronze 620W 80Plus Power Supply $169.00
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 32MB 7200rpm SATAII $79.95
ASUS DRW-24B3ST 24X DVD Writer SATA $49.00
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-D3 AMD 990FX SB950 AM3+ DDR3 PCI-E $208.95
Total $1,382.84

If you want to go more into it post up on their forums and they will personally give you a quote which will be around your budget and will have what you want.

Just curious: it seems like all the specs you guys post of PCs never include Xeon CPUs. I understand that they are significantly more powerful than the consumer i7 CPUs. Are they too expensive for gaming needs?

The GC has a mini HDMI which will come with an adaptor and otherwise you PC will use CPU processing power to do graphics and the GC will be doing nothing.

The cost is the big thing. With gaming at the moment the i5 2500k is 1 of the best for price and performance and the low range Xeon is over double the price as well as the MB's are more expensive. The Xeon's are mainly for servers but you get the occasional person who has the money to burn and makes an awesome rig like this (go to the last pages for the latest update of it.)
