I've never had coal or wood BBQ. With the standard gas BBQ the flavour is in the grimy grill plates and not the heating method :P

I don't have a BBQ personally, but I (generally) don't turn down any invites to go to one.

I'll have to try those - sound yum.
Whilst we're on the subject of sausages, i had some chicken sausages bought from the supermarket the other week. They were fucking weird, had the lightest texture to them, and weren't very nice. Had a look at the label that was on the pack, and the ingredients list was like a science lab. I guess to get decent snags, that aren't full of plastic, you need to go to a decent butcher. But it's not like these things were Sizzlers, which are 100% processed shit basically, they don't even have a tube/case, hence why they can't call them sausages. I'm sure there's loads of Sizzler lovers out there, but i'm just sick of eating plastic food. |

My rule of thumb for sausages is to just get gluten free. That way they are not 80% bread or flour. Both my favorite butchers offer what is pretty much just an all beef sausage.
You could of course ask for a specific flavour to be made up for you or make some yourself if you have the equipment. |

I always look at the contents. The more meat the better. I can highly reccomend Blackrock pork sausages (90 ish % pork). At about $19 a kilo I think V's rule applies there too. If your in the Whakatane area you should try the sausages from the Waimana butcher. I believe they'll even deliver to locals. Im lucky enough that my family do a lot of hunting so I end up with heaps of venison or pork sausages. Nom

Yesterday at work I had some good sausages for the first time in years for the staff meal. The problem with sausages in NZ is that they are all far too processed, the meat is turned into a paste, and the ones that aren't don't have enough fat through them.
I like a good BBQ. Haven't had one in a while though, will have to fix that when I get home. |
