I thought I would see what the cool kids were playing and borrowed my mates copy of GT5

Took about 2 hours for all the updates to download and install - by then it was time for bed!

This happens EVERY time I go to play GT5. Hours of updates by which time I've lost interest or play for about 2 minutes.

It's weird how yer can't download the updates overnight.
Do updates tend to be slower than downloading from the PSN store? Cos I downloaded the 6GB NFS unleashed 2 in only a few hours the other night.

I know the BM Forza community's a bit dead, but nevertheless I'm pimping an upcoming endurance race I'll be taking part in:

The Virtual Motorsports 2.4 Hours Nurburgring GP Full event takes place on Saturday at 13:00 CST / 19:00 GMT / 05:00 AEST and is an endurance race that pits driver against driver to see who can get to the finish in one piece. With two classes of car running on the track at the same time, a true endurance event is brought to lif, with just one lapse of concentration ready to punish any driver. The event takes place on Saturday 5th May, with signups closing after the second qualifying session held on Saturday 28th April.

If you want to get involved or learn more, follow this link to the Virtual Motorsports 2.4 Hours Nurburgring GP Full section!

Let me know if you want in for some super (edit: 7am) racing.

^ Sounds interesting. What's with the drag tyre rule? Seems like a weird thing...

::edit::

nvm, found the answer. They wear out quicker for more strategies.

Yeah everybody's a bit disappointed that tyre wear is so slow that you can run an hour long race without changing them, so we're trying out the drag tyres.

Oh and for organised racing times also, Teljam's community race night thing is up. Excuse me for posting a cross-forum link here, but it's a community-wide thing and entry is "first in, first served" so I don't feel too bad about it.

It seems strange you can't change the tyre wear rate (and fuel consumption) to make medium length races more interesting :S

Some games also have a compulsory pit stop setting, which would be good to have too.

Yeah, Forza's missing a lot of useful racing options, which I believe are intentionally omitted to keep its "broad appeal" factor. The back end is really limiting it a lot too, I believe.

Nevertheless, it can still be used to hold some good races.
The drag tyres work surprisingly well on the DTM car; I hated it at first, as it feels sluggish and the grip responds differently to lateral and longitudinal forces... but once you get used to driving on them they feel pretty good and there's this whole new dynamic of tyre wear which the game didn't have before, so it's cool.

The LMPc cars are trashing a set of drag tyres in 3 laps though The DTMs are a bit more sensible at 13-14 laps per set.

Bump as a reminder of the super community race day happening Sunday 13th.
Unicorns, Porsche packs, MSP prizes, plus top 5 from the "A" final qualify to race against a similar top 5 Aussies in another event somewhere down the track.
Teljam's the main organiser, I'm helping out.

Race signups are limited to 24, but as of now there are still 6 slots open.
