For you, get one with a kill switch for certain ports/connections

Oh i'm learning how to do that kinda shit at the moment. Once my course is finished, in about 5 months time, i'll be able to give you some decent advice

In the meantime, Mantis will be the dude who will be able to help you sort that out. Or Radish or McFadge maybe.

That would be very handy indeed

Looks like it'll be a Linksys or Netgear. Fulla at Dick Smith recommended a Linksys E3200

Mo, you can create rules with your router which can prioritise traffic to individual IP's, I had one set up that gave my xbox priority over the pc, drove the wife mad

Get yourself a router that you can install custom firmware, like Tomato. You will get so many extra features and settings you can play around with and there's a every helpful community online.

Asus RT-N16 combined with Draytek Vigor 120 in full bridge.

I've had to move into a temporary arrangement where I'm a long way from my phone jack and that area of the house has been inaccessible since mid Jan. I'm very thankful it hasn't missed a beat or needed power cycling.

And because the Vigor 120 is cheap, I can swap it out if I decide to upgrade to VDSL without disturbing the Asus with all of its network configuration.

Checked that out. Looks like it may be more than I need. I reckon my problem is more with the LAN connection not being fast enough plus not being able to allocate QoS. What are your thoughts on the RT-N15 ?

I do like the flexibilty of detachable external antennas. That is a common complaint with the Linksys routers. I'm not sure how the N15 performs in that regard.

Went with the N16. Set it up today, put QoS on gaming and had a quick blast. Everything seems way more stable now. Joined a game then started watching vids on the youtube while I played and it didnt so much as stutter. The real test will be later tonight with about 6 devices online

Will have a bit more of a play around with the settings tomorrow when I have more time

Good stuff.

One thing I forgot to mention, if its in the same room that you sleep or watch tv, the thing is ridiculously blingy. I had to move mine into the bedroom and for the first two nights, I hardly got any sleep. I ended up having to void the warranty just to subdue the blue light disco.
