Hear what you're saying V, I prefer to lay back in my recliner in front of my 50 in screen, media room is way more comfortable than the lounge.

For sure. I find that the added friction inherent in PC gaming (the stuff between you and pressing 'start' and your physical comfort thereafter) isn't worth the prettier graphics. Unless, of course, it's in the service of a genre that consoles neglect.

This. The only genres I use PC for are Dawn of War RTSs and Total War games. PC just got too many clicks to get stuff done and inveriably something mucks up and requires time to solve.

I'm playing PC through my 40" TV with 5.1 sound from my couch with a 360 controller. I didn't think much of PC gaming until I made the switch and made it work for me. Now, it's pretty bloody awesome.

My friend list is the single biggest plus for console gaming.

Right, so moving away from saying incorrect things about PC gaming, and back onto the future of Xbox; is there any word on BluRay? I mean... it's gonna hafta... innit?

Yeah, its has to right, its to early for discs to go by the way side and DVDs don't cut the mustard.

Blu Ray is expensive to license. I wonder if Microsoft would use the HD-DVD format because it's dead and would cost nothing, and they wouldn't have to spend money developing a proprietary format just for the Xbox.

I initially thought exactly the same as Viv, but this sort of news doesn't fill me with confidence;
http://buttonmasher.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=7649

And c'mon Gar, the xbox is just fun, and easy, and convenient and just f**king works; you put the disc in, the game fires up.

I remember getting home with that PC game i'd saved for weeks for, only to end up taking it back some 2 days later not being able to get it to run. Was a ninja-PC in it's day, but it was all just too finnicky, too many variables to mess it up.

Has that changed with modern PC's?

You have to admit, the social functionality in terms of friends lists and voice chat due to common hardware just pisses all over what the PC has to offer! We all know that super-duper graphics does not a good game make

New xbox will be a day-one purchase for me also. I've more than had my moneys worth from the current hardware, and i don't see the next generation to be any different.

When I said let's stay on topic, I didn't mean "please go as far off topic as humanly possible. I've started another thread to address your post.

I've learnt that a lot of PC games connect right into your Gamertag and friends list. While playing Dirt 3 on PC I see people signing into 360, I can message them by hitting the guide button and selecting them in the same way. Dunno about Steam but I'm enjoying Games for Windows Live

Sweet. So how does it work inviting them to a race? Or can you only do that with other PC players playing Dirt? Again, genuine question; i'm not sure whether Games 4 Windows integrate with Xbox Live games.

I do see dudes on my Friends List with a little computer screen next to their name - i guess that means they're playing the PC version?

And yeah, was on-topic GaR, hence me starting on-topic with the thing about Windows 8 not having Blu-ray support - if MS ain't putting it into their latest software OS, i can imagine that they might not put it into their latest hardware.

But it'd be criminal if they didn't.

After that, as i said in the other thread, i was really just being a bit facetious. Just a cheeky f**ker really - lighten up maaaaaate

Doesn't work like that sadly.
Shadowrun was pretty much only game that allowed cross platform support I think, but support was pretty poor / non-existant.
GfWL runs like a dog on my PC - but it is an outdated P4 3GHz p.o.s. lol
Usually the game title will have [PC] in it or similar, otherwise look for the little desktop computer icon and that means they are on GfWL.

That visibility in terms of platform integration is still pretty cool really. I was cursing Microsoft earlier, couldn't get a new Windows install to keep the resolution I'd set, kept resetting to 800x600 on boot. Turned out to be a dodgy AMD video driver! I guess they do get some things right
